How to Propose to the Man of Your Dreams in Leap Year

Every fourth year is a leap year and so an extra day is included in the calendar year, February 29th. Traditionally, it is believed that on this day women are encouraged to bite the bullet and propose to the man of her dreams instead of waiting around for him to buy her a ring. Ladies, if you’re thinking of popping the big question today, here are some ideas on how you might make your proposal extra special…

Buy a pretty tuxedo and unleash your inner gentleman.
You’re only going to be wearing the trousers for one day (or so this tradition would have you believe, ha ha!) so why not make the most of it and invest in a lovely tailored outfit. Here’s a photo of Polly Peach at our Christmas party last year. She had this gorgeous dress custom made by Tanya Maxwell from THIRtEEN fashion and looked every inch the lady and the gentleman all in one.

Make sure you ask his mother’s permission.
If you’re going to take your man’s hand in marriage, you’ll have to invert the rules and be sure to ask his mother’s permission. With all of these hands at bay and lots to discuss, why not invest in a manicure together? It will give you both some great bonding time, she’ll be more likely to give him up if you’ve pampered her, and your hands will be ready to flaunt your beautiful new ring. Everyone’s a winner! Naturally, Shellac will be your best choice of manicure.

Get ready to go down on one knee.
The last thing you want if you’re planning to propose on one knee is to graze them. Be sure to team your tailored attire with a lovely pair of tights – why not try some of the beautiful patterns that Pretty Polly has to offer at the moment? I love this leopard print pair.

Most importantly, don’t forget that if you love your man you shouldn’t have to wait for any special day… if you like it, then you should put a ring on it. Seize the day and let wedding bells ring!

Happy Leap Year 2012!
