Stocking Fillers for Your… Girlfriend

Mixed Gems Guide to Christmas

Use these guidelines to give the lady in your life a stocking she will never forget.

1. Jewellery from Tiffanys. The moment she sees a little mint coloured box her heart will skip a beat. All of their jewellery is timeless – from padlock pendants to eternity rings – you won’t be able to go wrong.

2. Red lipstick, red nail varnish and perfume from Chanel. When it comes to cosmetics there is no brand like Chanel to make a girl feel pampered. Red nails and lips are classically the most beautiful (and sexy) and suit every woman regardless of her colouring or age. Perfume, too, is cliché for a reason; Chanel’s perfumes are the most sophisticated of them all. Encourage her to unleash her inner Coco Chanel and be sure to keep the packaging for extra drama.

3. Underwear from Agent Provocateur. From Kylie Minogue to Kate Moss or Maggie Gyllenhaal, Agent Provocateur is a beautiful lingerie line favoured by a clientele of utmost sophistication. Treat her to a couple of pieces from here and she will treasure them forever.

4. Chocolates from Hotel Chocolat. Chocolates are a must when celebrating Christmas, but where you’ve got them from will make all the difference. Hotel Chocolat chocolates melt in your mouth and are so perfect that you’ll be able to keep eating and eating without that awful sickly feeling (I’m speaking from greedy experience).

5. Tickets to the Opera. Bit of a wild card but derived from the ultimate ladylike moment! There are few more heart-warming film scenes than when Richard Gere decides to take Julia Roberts to the opera in Pretty Woman. Tell her that you’re recreating this moment of ultimate romance and she will love you forever. The evening will be a fabulous opportunity for her to wear all of the other things that you’ve bought her, too!

With a stocking like this, your girlfriend is sure to have a wonderful Christmas.

“May you build a ladder to the stars… and stay forever young”- Bob Dylan

Despite being clad in a gorgeous new Calvin Klein thick knit scarf, adorable festive mittens and my tall chestnut Uggs, I returned to Birmingham on Saturday after a trip to Loughborough and felt frozen. A hot lemon and ginger tea was all that I had on my mind for the evening, but after all of the hype that I had stumbled across on Twitter yesterday I decided to explore the newly opened Forever 21 store in the Bullring before taking my final few steps home. What I found was a palace in which Topshop and Primark had merged to create a chic, quirky and cost effective range of clothing!

Amidst enormous (and beautiful) posters of their British face, Amber Le Bon, I allowed myself to be mesmerised by the simple and fresh decor, the pleasant and helpful shop assistants and the pre-styled mannequins that graced the three floors so invitingly. Amounting to both a positive and negative shopping experience, the shop is not necessarily divided into categories; instead, everything is jumbled up and you must browse the entire space to explore the endless pop-up appearances of dresses, shoes, scarves, bras and all that lies in between. Although it was difficult to pin point my favourite parts of the experience because the entire thing felt like a whirlwind of joy, relief and excitement, the following items made a lasting impression on me (and a dent in my bank balance…)

Leather skirt with lace trim (not to mention those divine leopard print wedges!)

Liza Minelli eat your heart out... beautiful sequin shorts

Get the Gwen Stefani look in these L.A.M.B-esque plaid clips

Channel your inner Kate Moss in these stunning biker boots (I've been wearing them since Saturday and can personally confirm that they are uber comfortable).

All of your problems are solved. Following the launch of this demure little palace you will never be stuck for your Custard Factory outfit again!
